Authenticating DNA

Trial court properly admitted DNA evidence after its authentication was challenged by the defense. The court held DNA evidence was properly authenticated because the State's witnesses testified that they had first-hand knowledge of the procedure for using the database and they personally verified the results (SCRE 901(b)(1)). The court also found that the DNA results had specific characteristics that set them apart (SCRE 901(b)(4)). · State v. Patterson, 425 S.C. 500 (Ct. App. 2019)
